8 Dicembre 2025

Tokyo, Dec. 8 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s inflation-adjusted real wage index dropped 0.7 pct year on year in October, falling for the 10th straight month as increases in prices of goods such as food continued to outpace wage growth, labor ministry data showed Monday. According to the ministry’s preliminary report covering businesses with five or more employees, nominal wages per worker, including base salary and overtime, rose 2.6 pct to an average of 300,141 yen. Regular pay, mainly comprising base salary, also grew 2.6 pct. The consumer price index excluding imputed rent, used to calculate the real wage index, surged 3.4 pct. A separate real wage index calculated for international comparison, using the overall CPI that includes imputed rent, was down 0.4 pct, marking the third consecutive monthly decline. Nominal wages for full-time workers climbed 2.7 pct to 384,151 yen, and those for part-time workers were up 2.2 pct to 112,283 yen. Part-timers’ average hourly wage increased 3.3 pct to 1,402 yen, for a 52-month rising streak. END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
