Takaichi Earns Most among Japanese Party Leaders in 2024

Tokyo, Dec. 5 (Jiji Press)–Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, also president of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, earned most among leaders of political parties in the country in 2024, annual political funds reports showed Friday. Takaichi had 255.37 million yen in revenue last year, a sharp increase from 100.1 million yen the previous year. Her 2024 total included 140.17 million yen in personal donations. The amount of personal donations has soared since she first ran for the LDP leadership in 2021. She collected 48.88 million yen in personal donations in 2022 and 75.22 million yen in 2023. In 2024, several individuals donated 10 million yen to her. Takaichi gathered 78.14 million yen in donations from companies and groups, including 30 million yen from a religious organization in the city of Nara, part of her constituency. She did not hold any fundraising party. Yuichiro Tamaki, leader of the opposition Democratic Party for the People, placed second with 55.78 million yen in revenue. He received 20.5 million yen from party headquarters and 5.88 million yen in corporate and group donations. The revenues of party leaders were the combination of those reported by their fund management organizations and party branches in their constituencies. Taro Yamamoto, leader of Reiwa Shinsengumi, ranked third with 32.48 million yen, including 20 million yen in donations from his supporters’ group. Yoshihiko Noda, chief of the main opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, came in fourth with 31.96 million yen, including 15.41 million yen in personal donations. He received no donations from businesses or groups. Tetsuo Saito, head of Komeito, which was previously the LDP’s coalition partner, placed fifth with 30.46 million yen, including 20.7 million yen from party headquarters. Takahiro Anno, head of Team Mirai, came sixth with 18.42 million yen. He received the second most personal donations after Takaichi, at 16.42 million yen. Mizuho Fukushima, leader of the Social Democratic Party, ranked seventh with 14.46 million yen. The leaders of the Japan Innovation Party, Sanseito, the Japanese Communist Party and the Conservative Party of Japan were excluded from the rankings as they have no comparable organizations. Still, Hirofumi Yoshimura, chief of the JIP, the LDP’s current coalition partner, which is also known as Nippon Ishin no Kai, reported 1.5 million yen in revenue for a political organization.
