Germany, today the Bundestag vote on the pension reform package

5 Dicembre 2025

(Adnkronos) – The Bundestag is expected to vote today on the pension reform package proposed by the coalition supporting Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s government, consisting of CDU/CSU and SPD. The result of the vote should be announced after 1 PM this afternoon. The package comprises three legislative measures, one of which remains controversial even within the coalition’s ranks. In particular, the younger wing of the conservatives has indicated the possibility of voting against it, denouncing unsustainable future costs, with an additional 100 billion euros in pension expenses. However, even in this scenario, the reform is expected to pass thanks to the decision of The Left party to abstain from the vote (abstentions do not count towards the simple majority required).
