Honduras, fourth day of vote count, Asfura returns to lead, candidate supported by Trump

4 Dicembre 2025

(Adnkronos) – On the fourth day of the presidential election vote count in Honduras, Nasry Asfura is once again narrowly ahead of Salvador Nasralla. With 84.5% of the ballots counted, the candidate of the right-wing National Party, who has Donald Trump’s endorsement, is at 40.05%, while the other conservative candidate, the former television presenter candidate of the Liberal Party, is at 39.74%, according to data released by the electoral commission, which emphasizes that the results are too close to declare a winner.

Since last Monday, the commission has been urging patience, reiterating that the two candidates are in a situation of “technical parity.” These statements have been contested by Trump, who accused Honduran authorities of “trying to alter” the election results, threatening that they “will pay hell” if they attempt to do so.

Trump has given his support to the 67-year-old businessman he called “a friend of freedom,” while attacking the other conservative candidate, stating that the 72-year-old “pretends to be anti-communist.” He also threatened to cut funds to Honduras if his preferred candidate does not win. In recent days, there has been interference from Trump, who, during the election weekend, announced a pardon for Juan Orlando Hernandez, the former Honduran president of Asfura’s National Party, who was released on Monday from the American prison where he was serving a 45-year sentence for drug trafficking.
