(Adnkronos) – A British citizen has been arrested in Ukraine on charges of espionage for Moscow. The Ukrainian security service stated that the arrested person is a former member of the British armed forces and that the investigation against him was conducted in collaboration with London intelligence. If found guilty, he faces up to 12 years in prison.

According to the Ukrainian SBU, the man reportedly traveled to Ukraine early last year as an instructor to train the Kyiv army. He was subsequently recruited by the Russian FSB intelligence agency with the promise of making “easy money”. Ukrainian security services accused the man of passing information about the Kyiv army to Moscow’s intelligence agency and planning to carry out terrorist attacks.

Among the information he allegedly shared with the Russians are the coordinates of military training centers in southern Ukraine and details about foreign instructors working for the Ukrainian armed forces. The man is also accused of having received instructions on how to build an improvised explosive device and of having received indications on where to find a pistol with two loaded magazines.
