Italy eyes ‘quantum leap’ in trade with Mongolia

2 Dicembre 2025

(Adnkronos) – Italy wants to export more goods and “know-how” to Mongolia and is also ready to invest in the central Asian country, undertaking joint ventures, especially in the fashion and natural resources sector, foreign minister Antonio Tajani said on Tuesday.

“Mongolia has raw materials of extraordinary quality, such as cashmere and wool, and we have a thriving fashion industry, perhaps the most important in the world,” Tajani said in closing remarks to a bilateral business forum in Rome.

Combining Mongolia’s “superb” cashmere with Italian fashion “means creating extraordinary products,” Tajani said.

“We are Mongolia’s main European trading partner after Germany, but we want to do even more,” he said.

Italy is the largest industrial power in Europe and the fifth largest trading power in the world, and wants to promote its high-quality products worldwide, Tajani noted.

“Hence the prospect of a quantum leap in trade: we are ready to export even more, not only our goods but also our know-how. We are also willing to invest in countries such as Mongolia, where there is legal certainty,” said Tajani.

The presence of senior Mongolian ministers at the forum including foreign minister Battsetseg Batmunkat “shows how important their relationship with Italy is to them,” he said.

“But our relationship with you is just as important to us,“ he added

The presence of “numerous” Asian businesses at Tuesday’s forum “shows that there is fertile ground and that we can build industrial policy together for the well-being of citizens,” Tajani underlined.
