(Adnkronos) – The toll from the devastating fire that has been consuming the Wang Fuk Court residential complex in the Tai Po district, north of Hong Kong, for hours is worsening. According to the South China Morning Post, the victims have risen to 12 – eight women, three men, and one firefighter – while the injured amount to 16.
The newspaper also reports that dozens of people are still trapped inside the buildings, along with at least a hundred pets. Given the seriousness of the situation, authorities have raised the alert to level five, the highest level: a measure that had not been adopted for 17 years.
