(Adnkronos) – The U.S. State Department has formally approved the sale of Javelin anti-tank missiles and Excalibur artillery shells to India, valued at 92.8 billion dollars. This was announced by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (Dsca), which notified the U.S. Congress, marking substantial progress in bilateral defense cooperation with India. According to the American agency, the delivery of weapons “will improve India’s ability to address current and future threats,” strengthening its role as an “important defense partner” contributing to regional stability. The sale of these weapons to India, it was emphasized, “will not alter the basic military balance in the region.”
In detail, New Delhi will purchase up to 216 Excalibur projectiles and related equipment from Washington, valued at 47.1 million dollars, to enhance India’s long-range precision strike capabilities. India will then purchase 100 Javelin anti-tank systems, and the package also includes training and logistical support, with a total value of 45.7 million dollars.
