(Adnkronos) – Law-abiding immigrant workers with a good knowledge of Italian are welcome in Italy, foreign minister Antonio Tajani has stated, denying his country is xenophobic.
”We certainly need foreign workers who study and learn Italian… we want to wipe out illegal immigration,” Tajani said.
The minister was speaking at a centre-right rally in Padua late Tuesday ahead of regional elections on 23-24 November.
“We don’t want folks who come here to bother people in stations and commit crimes,” Tajani said.
“And we don’t want to be told we are racist when we are fighting illegal immigration,” Tajani added.
