(Adnkronos) – U.S. President Donald Trump has approved additional pressure measures on Venezuela, also in view of the possibility of a broader military campaign. This was revealed by the New York Times, which cites several people informed on the matter: according to these sources, Trump approved CIA plans for covert operations within Venezuela that could be intended to prepare the ground for further actions. At the same time, he authorized a new round of secret negotiations.
It is not clear what the secret operations might be or when they might be put into practice. Trump has not yet authorized the deployment of combat forces on Venezuelan territory, so the next phase of the administration’s pressure campaign on Maduro’s executive could consist of sabotage or some form of cyber or psychological operation, the newspaper reports.
