(Adnkronos) – A ‘survival guide’. In the homes of Taiwan’s 23 million inhabitants, always under political and military pressure from Beijing, which wants the island’s “reunification”, an updated booklet arrives with instructions to follow in case of natural disasters or war. The most feared scenario is a Chinese military attack and an invasion of the island.
The initiative had been announced in September. Now, starting tomorrow, the guidelines will begin to enter Taiwanese homes, as confirmed by Taipei authorities and reported by CNA. The goal is to complete the operation by early January. The booklet, of which more than ten million copies will be printed, contains indications on the supplies it is best to have, and on the hand luggage to keep ready.
In the event of a military invasion, Taiwan authorities say, any statement about a surrender of Taipei or a defeat of the de facto independent island, which claims its democracy, should be considered “disinformation”. In Taipei, the slogan is “being prepared means being safer”. The booklet is in its third edition since 2022.
