(Adnkronos) – Searches “day and night” in Nigeria to save the 25 high school girls kidnapped in Kebbi state, in the northwest of the African country. The Chief of Staff of the Nigerian Army ordered them. “We must find these girls,” said General Waidi Shaibu before the troops.
“Failure is not an option,” he insisted yesterday. The girls from Maga Girls’ High School were kidnapped overnight between Sunday and Monday by a group of armed men, who also killed the vice-principal, Hassan Makuku. His widow recounted waking up in the middle of the night, hearing noises coming from outside their home. Shortly after, armed men arrived at the house. “One of them shot my husband, then dragged me out – she recounted to Nigerian TV Channels – My daughter arrived, they left me and took her.” And she further said that her daughter managed to escape.
“You have our word that we will do everything in our power to ensure these girls are rescued,” said Kebbi Governor Nasir Idris last night. The government “has ordered security forces to intervene immediately to ensure the release of the kidnapped students,” confirmed Defense Minister Bello Matawalle, urging the population “to remain calm.” The area is no stranger to kidnappings. In 2021, more than a hundred people, including students and school staff, were kidnapped in the Yauri area, then released in several phases.
