Louvre, one of the galleries closed to the public due to ‘particular fragility’ of beams

(Adnkronos) – New problems at the Louvre. The prestigious French museum has been forced to close one of its galleries to the public due to the “particular fragility” of some beams. A closure “carried out as a precaution”, so as not to “take any risks”, assured the Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, speaking with Bfmtv. “It is a partial closure of a room. We will not allow any risk to staff and no risk to the public,” she added.

The Minister of Culture explained that staff working in the Campana Gallery, which houses nine rooms dedicated to ancient Greek ceramics, were evacuated to assess the physical and material safety of that sector. “Studies have confirmed a certain fragility,” declared the mayor of the 7th arrondissement of Paris. “Therefore, as a precautionary measure, we have evacuated this room to allow us to complete the study, determine the risks, and the urgent measures to be adopted.”

According to Dati, to “fully bring” the Louvre “up to the desired standards” and “make it fully operational once again,” it “should almost be closed” until further notice. “We do not want to deprive visitors and we do not want to deprive staff of their work, so we are proceeding in phases,” she stated.
