Senegal: Italy to step up embassy security in Dakar

14 Novembre 2025

(Adnkronos) – The government will reinforce Italy’s security personnel at the embassy in Senegal’s capital, Dakar in a concrete sign of its commitment to the rule of law, foreign minister Antonio Tajani told a crime-busting event in Rome.

“I recently spoke with the chief of police (Vittorio) Pisani, asking him for reinforcements at the embassy in Dakar,” Tajani told the Inter-institutional International Anti-Corruption Coordination Table.

“I have just returned from a visit with (interior) minister Matteo Piantedosi to Senegal, Mauritania and Niger, where we reaffirmed our unwavering support for the rule of law,” Tajani said.

Legal diplomacy is a crucial tool for combatting organised crime, Tajani said during his address to the event, hailing “everything that our law enforcement representatives do in embassies.”

“The role played by policemen, (paramilitary) Carabinieri and finance police officers in our embassies is key to political diplomacy,” Tajani said.

Tajani, Piantedosi and justice minister Carlo Nordio are chairing the roundtable taking place at the Italian Police Academy.
