Georgia, new prosecutor takes over case against Trump for electoral interference

14 Novembre 2025

(Adnkronos) – The head of the Georgia Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council, Peter Skandalakis, announced that he will replace Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in leading the case against Donald Trump and other defendants for electoral interference. The Democratic prosecutor had been removed from the case last year for having a relationship with one of the prosecutors she appointed to handle the charges against Trump.

Skandalakis, a highly experienced lawyer who began his career as a prosecutor as a Democrat before switching to the Republicans, had been tasked with finding a new prosecutor to entrust the case to, but given the sensitivity of a state case involving the incumbent president, none of the “several” colleagues contacted accepted the assignment.

So Skandalakis, who could have also asked the judge to dismiss the case since he couldn’t find a new prosecutor, decided that this would not have been the right choice, and therefore today announced that he will continue the review of the material his office received from Willis’s office on October 29, with the goal of “making a thoughtful decision about the best way forward.” The new holder can then decide to proceed with the case, which has been stuck in legal limbo for a year, or dismiss it.
