Vietnam, Typhoon Kalmaegi makes landfall, winds up to 149 km/h

(Adnkronos) – Typhoon Kalmaegi has made landfall in central Vietnam after causing approximately 140 deaths in the Philippines. This was reported by the Vietnamese online newspaper VnExpress, explaining that the typhoon has just hit the coast of Vietnam, with winds up to 149 kilometers per hour. “The typhoon has struck the mainland, in the provinces of Dak Lak and Gia Lai,” the Ministry of Environment confirmed in a statement. 

Trees have fallen on main roads, blocking access, while hotel windows in the Quy Non area were shattered, VnExpress reported. The Vietnamese National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has warned of a 4-6 meter sea level rise that poses a risk to vessels.
