Tokyo, Nov. 6 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s inflation-adjusted real wage index fell 1.4 pct in September from a year earlier, marking the ninth consecutive monthly decline, as inflation continued to outpace wage growth, government data showed Thursday. Nominal wages per worker, including base salary and overtime, grew 1.9 pct to 297,145 yen on average, the labor ministry said in a preliminary report covering businesses with five or more employees. Regular pay rose 1.9 pct. The consumer price index excluding imputed rent, used to calculate the real wage index, increased 3.4 pct. A separate real wage index calculated for international comparison, using the overall CPI that includes imputed rent, fell 1.0 pct. Nominal wages for full-time workers grew 2.3 pct to 381,898 yen, while those for part-time workers rose 1.9 pct to 109,659 yen. END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
