China a ‘rapidly expanding’, ‘strategic’ market for Italy’s growth

6 Novembre 2025

(Adnkronos) – China, a key export market, is expanding “rapidly” and institutions and businesses must grasp the “significant” opportunities it offers to propel Italy’s economic growth, foreign undersecretary Maria Tripodi said on Thursday.

“The growth opportunities in a rapidly expanding and highly potential market such as China are significant,” Tripodi said at the opening of the Italian Pavilion at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai.

“Institutions and businesses must work together to seize these opportunities fully,” said Tripodi, quoted by a foreign ministry statement.

Fashion, goldsmithing, jewellery, and luxury goods sectors are particularly appreciated in China, as shown by crowds thronging the luxury exhibitions in the Italian Pavilion, Tripodi noted.

The Italian Pavilion was organised by the foreign ministry and Italy’s trade agency (ITA) and inspired by Rome’s Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana in (Rome’s fascist-era suburb) Eur, the statement noted.

Due to the exports action plan launched by Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani, the government is spearheading support for domestic businesses abroad and spurring national economic growth, Tripodi underlined.

In a sign of the government’s support for companies operating abroad, on the CIIE’s sidelines, Tripodi met representatives of the Italian business community in China, the statement noted.

Italy closed 2024 as the world’s 6th largest exporter, with exports worth 623.5 billion euros. It also ranked as the 2nd most diversified economy globally, and the leading economy in Europe in terms of product variety, according to the statement.

These trends have continued this year, when Italy exported goods worth 423 billion euros from January to August alone, marking a 2.6% rise from the same period in 2024.

Now in its eighth edition, the CIIE event attracts thousands of exhibitors from over 150 countries each year, offering them a platform to introduce new products, technologies, and services to the Chinese market.
