Japan, Australia to Enhance Economic Security Cooperation

Gyeongju, South Korea, Oct. 31 (Jiji Press)–Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and his Australian counterpart, Penny Wong, have agreed to enhance economic security cooperation between their countries. In their meeting in Gyeongju, South Korea, on Thursday, Motegi and Wong shared concerns about the impact of recent export control measures for critical minerals, with China’s efforts to restrict rare earth exports in mind. The two ministers also confirmed plans to collaborate with like-minded countries through the framework of Japan, the United States and Australia as well as that of the trio plus India to promote the free and open Indo-Pacific initiative. Motegi also met with World Trade Organization Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in the South Korean city on the same day.
