(Adnkronos) – A Polish MiG-29 fighter intercepted a Russian reconnaissance plane over the Baltic Sea, in the second such incident this week. This was announced by Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz. Yesterday, the Polish army had stated that on Tuesday too, Polish jets had intercepted a Russian aircraft engaged in a reconnaissance mission in international airspace over the Baltic Sea, without a filed flight plan and with its transponder switched off.
“Today, MiG-29s intercepted a Russian reconnaissance plane over the Baltic Sea,” said Kosiniak-Kamysz, describing the incident as identical to Tuesday’s and without providing further details. Countries on NATO’s eastern flank have been on high alert for possible airspace incursions since September, when three Russian military jets violated Estonian airspace for 12 minutes, just days after more than 20 Russian drones had entered Polish airspace.
