Tokyo, Oct. 29 (Jiji Press)–Nissan Motor Co. unveiled Wednesday the fully remodeled Elgrand luxury minivan, which is newly equipped with a hybrid system. After undergoing the first full model changeover in about 10 years, the Elgrand became a model with the Japanese automaker’s third-generation e-POWER hybrid system ahead of any other Nissan vehicle available in Japan. It also newly adopts an electric four-wheel drive system. Set to go on sale next summer, the quieter, eco-friendlier minivan is expected to help struggling Nissan stage a turnaround together with the new Leaf EV and Roox minivehicle models, people familiar with the matter said. Designed under the theme of “Timeless Japanese Futurism,” the flagship Elgrand reflects Nissans’ future vision, the company’s President and CEO Ivan Espinosa said at a launch event at the Tokyo Big Sight convention center the day before the official start of the Japan Mobility Show.
