Hurricane Melissa, death toll in Haiti rises to 20

(Adnkronos) – The death toll in Haiti has risen to 20 following the floods caused by Hurricane Melissa. Local authorities reported this. 

Among the victims are 10 children and 10 people are missing, the country’s Director General of Civil Protection, Emmanuel Pierre, told AFP. 

The flooding of the La Digue river swept away several houses in the coastal town of Petit-Goâve, residents said. According to Emmanuel Pierre, searches are continuing to find the missing.
