(Adnkronos) – The Mexican Navy has confirmed it is engaged in a rescue operation following US attacks against four suspected drug trafficking vessels in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, which left only one survivor. The operation is underway more than 400 miles (6,450 km) southwest of the port of Acapulco and was conducted at the request of the United States Coast Guard, according to Mexican authorities. Previously, US Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, had reported that 14 people were killed in the attacks, the first confirmed near Mexican waters since the United States launched its anti-drug campaign in the region, causing 57 casualties so far.
