Taiwan: Beijing exercises around island, Taipei ‘is propaganda to intimidate’

27 Ottobre 2025

(Adnkronos) – A few days after the anticipated meeting in South Korea between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Donald Trump, Beijing’s state media announced that a fleet of H-6K bombers and J-10 fighters had conducted “confrontation-clash exercises” near Taiwan. The state television’s military channel, via the social media platform Weibo, reported maneuvers in “combat formation” and attack simulations in the aerial and maritime area around the island.

Taipei called the report “a propaganda operation aimed at intimidation,” urging the population to “remain united in the defense of freedom and democracy.” The Taiwanese Ministry of Defense reported only four Chinese aircraft sighted in the last 24 hours, denying an increase in military activity. Beijing continues to consider Taiwan part of its territory, and Xi has repeatedly reiterated the goal of “reunification,” even by force if necessary. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio sought to reassure Taipei, stating that it “should not worry about the talks” between Washington and Beijing.
