(Adnkronos) – Foreign minister Antonio Tajani was set to welcome 49 Palestinian scholarship students and researchers and 16 Palestinians with relatives in Italy when the group arrives at Rome’s Ciampino airport late on Thursday, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
The Palestinians are due to land at Ciampino at around 7.30 pm local time aboard two special flights from Jordan, which are being organised by Italy’s tax police, said the statement.
The two planes have been equipped for the flights with a contribution from the Conference of Italian Rectors, from Italy’s civil protection agency and the European Civil Protection Mechanism, the statement said.
Italy’s higher education minister Anna Maria Bernini travelled to Jordan’s capital Amman on Thursday to collect the Palestinian students, the statement noted.
