Russia has acquired Western technology to protect nuclear submarine fleet

(Adnkronos) – Russia has acquired Western technology through a secret supply network to protect its submarine fleet and build an underwater surveillance system in the Arctic Sea or Barents Sea where they operate, the Washington Post reports at the end of a long investigation published hours after the introduction of sanctions by the US Administration, the first since Donald Trump’s return to the White House, against oil giants Rosneft and Lukoil.

Among the acquired components are sonar systems and underwater drones capable of operating at depths of 3,000 meters, underwater antennas, and a fleet of vessels that pretend to operate as commercial or research ships but are actually working to install military systems. At the center of the supply network is the Cyprus-based company Mostrello Commercial Ltd, a front company for the Russian military-industrial complex.

The system, named ‘Harmony’, consists of a constellation of sensors laid on the seabed that signal the entry of American submarines into Russian naval ‘bastions’. Its role emerged during a trial in Germany in recent months against a Russian convicted of coordinating purchases for the company in violation of German trade regulations.
