(Adnkronos) – The ‘excellent’ relations between Italy and Iraq and November parliamentary elections were the focus of talks in Baghdad Thursday between ambassador Niccolo Fontana and interior minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari, the embassy wrote on X.
“Always a pleasure receiving interior minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari at @ItalyinIraq,” read the post.
“Focus on the excellent status of the bilateral relations, and preparation for the November elections,” the post continued.
Low turnout is predicted for Iraq’s 11 November polls, which observers say will be a contest of how power will be divided among the elites who have continued to dominate the system since the 2005 Constitution that established a parliamentary democracy.
