LDP, Nippon Ishin to Ink Coalition Agreement on Mon. Evening

20 Ottobre 2025

Tokyo, Oct. 20 (Jiji Press)–Leaders of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party and Nippon Ishin no Kai (Japan Innovation Party) will sign a coalition agreement at 6 p.m. Monday, Nippon Ishin chief Hirofumi Yoshimura said. The coalition will make it almost certain that LDP President Sanae Takaichi will win a parliamentary election to pick the successor to outgoing Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. Takaichi and Yoshimura, who is also governor of the western prefecture of Osaka, effectively agreed to establish a coalition government in their telephone talks Monday morning. Yoshimura told reporters at the prefectural government office that during their phone talks he voiced his determination to “bring Japan forward together.” On Nippon Ishin’s “secondary capital” initiative, Yoshimura said that the coalition deal includes the enactment of related legislation during next year’s ordinary Diet session.
