(Adnkronos) – The United World Food Programme said on Friday it is ramping up food aid in Gaza and will be able to feed the population for three months provided the fragile week-old ceasefire between Israel and Hamas holds.
“WFP is scaling up food assistance in #Gaza. We have the food, the teams and the networks to feed all of Gaza for 3 months,” the agency wrote on X.
“To keep going — and reach everyone — we need lasting access and a stable operating environment,” the post continued.
“The ceasefire must hold. We cannot go back,” WFP underlined.
Humanitarian aid is entering the Gaza Strip through Kerem Shalom and other crossing as the Rafah crossing with Egypt remains closed.
A total 600 aid trucks have been approved to enter the coastal enclave and WFP says it has brought in around 560 tonnes of food per day on average into Gaza since the ceasefire began, but that this is not enough.
Palestinians in Gaza say they are still desperate for food, water and other basic necessities despite the ceasefire.
Israel’s military still occupies around half of Gaza. On Thursday Hamas accused Israel of flouting the ceasefire by killing at least 24 people in shootings since Friday.
Israel opened fire on Tuesday on Palestinians it said were approaching its forces.
