(Adnkronos) – Training is a key plank of Italy’s multi-billion euro Mattei plan to stabilise Africa and propel its economic development, deputy foreign minister Edmondo Cirielli said at the Med Dialogues conference in Naples on Friday.
“Training is at the heart of the #Mattei Plan, because people and their growth are at the heart of it,” Cirielli told the ‘Knowledge as Power; The Mattei Plan and Africa’s path to economic growth’ panel discussion.
“This is Italy’s commitment in #Africa,” Cirielli said in his opening address to the ‘Knowledge as power: the Mattei Plan and Africa’s path towards inclusive growth’ debate.
Italy’s premier Giorgia Meloni unveiled the government’s Mattei Plan in January 2024, to which an initial 5.5 billion euros were allocated. The blueprint focuses on forging equal partnerships in five main areas: education and training, agriculture, heath, water and energy.
Italy aims to become an energy hub to transport natural gas from Africa to the rest of Europe and that economic development spurred by the Mattei Plan will curb illegal immigration to Europe.
