Afghanistan, ceasefire with Pakistan extended by 48 hours

17 Ottobre 2025

(Adnkronos) – Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to a 48-hour extension of the two-day ceasefire in effect since Wednesday to facilitate negotiations that will begin tomorrow in Doha, the capital of Qatar. The Taliban negotiating team confirmed this to Tolo News broadcaster, adding that a delegation from the Islamist movement, led by Defense Minister Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, will arrive tomorrow morning in Doha. For Pakistan, on the other hand, there will be the Minister of Defense, the head of intelligence, and the chief of staff.

On Wednesday, Pakistan and the Taliban agreed to a provisional halt to hostilities that have caused dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries. Last weekend, the group controlling Kabul launched an attack along the common border “in retaliation for air strikes on Kabul” attributed to Islamabad. Pakistan accuses Afghanistan of hosting Pakistani Taliban (TTP) on its territory.
