Venezuela, Trump: ‘authorized clandestine CIA operations’

16 Ottobre 2025

(Adnkronos) – US President Donald Trump has stated that he authorized clandestine CIA actions against Venezuela and said he had considered the possibility of attacks on Venezuelan territory.

Trump refused to comment in detail on the New York Times’ information that he had secretly authorized the CIA to conduct a clandestine action in Venezuela against President Nicolas Maduro. “But I gave authorization” for operations “for two reasons,” he said, then accusing Maduro of leading a ‘narco-terrorist’ regime and releasing detainees to send them to the United States.

When asked if he had given the CIA authorization to ‘neutralize’ the Venezuelan leader, Donald Trump replied: “That’s a ridiculous question you’re asking me. Well, it’s not really a ridiculous question, but wouldn’t it be ridiculous for me to answer?” The Trump administration recently struck at least five vessels off the coast of Venezuela, considered to be used by drug traffickers, causing at least 27 deaths.

Finally, responding to a question about the possibility of ground attacks against Venezuela, Trump stated: “I don’t want to tell you anything else, but at the moment we are evaluating the ground option, as we control the sea very well.”
