Tokyo, Oct. 16 (Jiji Press)–Over 30 pct of respondents think that the next election for Japan’s House of Representatives, the all-important lower chamber of parliament, should be held in 2028, a Jiji Press opinion poll showed. The poll found that 33.7 pct, the largest group, want the next Lower House election to take place in 2028, when the four-year term of the chamber’s current members expires. According to the poll conducted for four days through Monday, the second-largest group, at 25.1 pct, hoped for a Lower House election in 2026. This was followed by 11.8 pct who want it this year, while 7 pct favored 2027. In the summer of 2028, an election for the House of Councillors, the upper chamber, is scheduled to be held.
