Tokyo, Oct. 16 (Jiji Press)–More than 10 lawmakers from six Japanese ruling and opposition parties met on Wednesday to form a study group to discuss ways to promote the use of digital technology in politics. The group aims to come up with proposals this year to improve parliamentary proceedings with digital technology, possibly including using tablets and introducing online questioning. The group is co-headed by Team Mirai leader Takahiro Anno, who is known as an engineer on artificial intelligence, and digital transformation minister Masaaki Taira, a member of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party. Anno said that the group is a “place for sharing knowledge and studying together across party lines, to think about an appropriate form of democracy in the AI age.” Former Taiwanese digital minister Audrey Tang delivered a speech online at Wednesday’s inaugural meeting.
