(Adnkronos) – Italy on Thursday hailed as “historic”, Israeli foreign minister Gideon Saar and his Palestinian Authority counterpart Varsen Aghabekian’s attendance at the Med Dialogues conference in Naples.
“Today, I believe, is a historic day,” said Tajani.
Italy had played a “key role” in getting Saar and Aghabekian to attend Medi Dialogues, but declined to say if he saw talks at the forum between the two ministers taking place there.
“Let’s see,” Tajani told reporters.
“It’s already an important result to have gotten both ministers to take part in the same event: this is due to the key role played by Italy and its diplomats,” Tajani said.
“The Iraqi and United Arab Emirates minsters are attending, so there are many delegates with an interest in the region,” he continued.
“We are at the beginning, so we must ensure that this truce is consolidated,” Tajani said, referring to the ceasefire and hostage release accord between Israel and Gaza’s ruling Islamist Palestinian group Hamas signed in Egypt on 9 October and which entered into force last Friday.
