Italy-Jordan: Meloni, Abdullah hold talks

15 Ottobre 2025

(Adnkronos) – Italy’s premier Giorgia Meloni and Jordan’s King Abullah held talks in Rome on Wednesday at a high-level counter-terrorism forum which focussed on West Africa and instability and jihadism in the Sahel.

Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani also took part in the bilateral talks at Rome’s National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, on the sidelines of the Aqaba Process summit.

The Aqaba Process Meeting, an initiative launched in 2015 by Abdullah, is co-chaired by Italy and Jordan.

It is the first time that Rome has hosted the summit, which analysts say reflects a growing recognition of the role in stabilising Africa and in multilateral security cooperation being played by Italy.

The Meloni government last year launched its multi-billion euro Mattei Plan for Africa. The plan aims to support projects in areas including agriculture and energy to spur Africa’s economic growth.
