Tokyo, Oct. 14 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s 2026 catch quota for southern bluefin tuna has been set at a reasonable level, fisheries minister Shinjiro Koizumi said Tuesday. Japan’s quota will total 7,295 tons, unchanged from 2024 and 2025, according to a decision made by the Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna, an international body responsible for the management of the fish resources, at a meeting in Indonesia earlier this month. “We consider this a reasonable outcome,” Koizumi told a press conference. “We will continue to appropriately work on resources management based on scientific grounds,” he said.
