(Adnkronos) – The Global Gateway, the EU program aimed at promoting investments around the world based on the Chinese BRI model, “is based on mutual benefits. Our initial goal was to mobilize 300 billion euros in five years. Today we have already achieved it. In four years, we have already mobilized over 306 billion euros.” This was stated by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, speaking in Brussels at a conference dedicated to the program.
The President is “confident that we will exceed 400 billion euros by 2027. This shows what we can achieve by aligning our strategic priorities and directing investments where they have the greatest impact. By doing so, we strengthen our economies and ensure our self-sufficiency,” she concludes. Since 2013, the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has mobilized, according to the Atlas Institute for International Affairs in London, approximately 1.308 billion dollars, allocated for projects in 140 countries.
