(Adnkronos) – Pro-Palestinian slogans written with spray paint appeared on the regional parliament building in Kiel, in the northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein overnight. A police spokesperson told Dpa that about 15 slogans, including ‘From the river to the sea’, ‘Free Gaza’ and ‘Free Greta’ were written on the parliament walls around midnight by unknown individuals. The President of the Landtag, the regional parliament, Kristina Herbst, condemned the incident in the strongest terms. “Our parliament is synonymous with open democratic dialogue, not vandalism and political slogans on walls,” she said in a statement. The graffiti not only compromises the appearance of a building symbolizing democracy, but also damages respect for common rules of coexistence, Herbst further argued. “Political issues must have their place in public debate, not on the walls of parliament,” she concluded. Commemorative events are planned across Germany today, on the second anniversary of the October 7 attacks led by Hamas, which caused 1,200 deaths in Israel and ended with the kidnapping of 250 people.
