USA, judge again prohibits Trump from sending National Guard to Oregon

(Adnkronos) – Federal judge Karin Immergut last night again blocked Donald Trump’s attempt to deploy the National Guard in Portland, prohibiting the president from sending 300 California National Guard soldiers to Oregon. The judge granted California Governor Gavin Newsom’s request for a temporary emergency injunction against Trump’s order, calling it “a shocking abuse of power”.

The White House’s move to transfer troops from California to Oregon came after Immergut, who was appointed by Trump himself, had blocked the order to deploy the Oregon National Guard in Portland, in the face of opposition from Governor Tina Kotek. The White House, for its part, stated that “President Trump exercised his legal authority to protect federal property and personnel in Portland following violent riots and attacks on law enforcement,” said spokeswoman Abigail Jackson.

Democrat Kotek confirmed the arrival of some National Guard soldiers on Saturday, stating that “there is no need for military intervention in Oregon, there is no insurrection in Portland, no threat to national security. Oregon is our home, not a military target, and its inhabitants who exercise freedom of expression against Trump’s illegal actions should be able to do so in a peaceful situation.”
