Tokyo, Oct. 2 (Jiji Press)–Japan’s Finance Ministry on Thursday raised the coupon rate on new 10-year government bonds to 1.7 pct in October, the highest level since July 2008, up from 1.5 pct in September. The increase came in line with higher long-term interest rates amid growing speculation that the Bank of Japan will raise interest rates. The 10-year government bond yield, the benchmark long-term interest rate in the country, climbed to 1.665 pct, a level not seen in about 17 years, on Sept. 22. END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
