Germany, Berlin summons Georgia’s chargé d’affaires

2 Ottobre 2025

(Adnkronos) – The German Foreign Ministry has summoned Georgia’s chargé d’affaires in Berlin, Ani Abuladze, to protest against criticism from Tbilisi of Germany’s ambassador to Georgia. “We sent a clear message: the unfounded accusations and aggressive rhetoric of the Georgian authorities against the German ambassador in Tbilisi are unacceptable and must stop,” the Foreign Ministry wrote on X.

The German ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer, has drawn the government’s ire with his comments on the government’s increasingly authoritarian path and for his presence at hearings against opposition members. He was summoned to the Georgian Foreign Ministry at the end of September and accused of interfering in the country’s internal affairs. The German Foreign Ministry rejected the accusations as “unfounded”. The EU delegation in Tbilisi expressed solidarity with Fischer.
