Kagoshima, Oct. 2 (Jiji Press)–A Chinese marine research ship has been spotted again within Japan’s exclusive economic zone off the island of Amami Oshima in the southwestern Japan prefecture of Kagoshima, the Japan Coast Guard said Thursday. The JCG’s 10th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters, based in the prefectural capital of Kagoshima, said that a patrol ship found the Chinese vessel extending a pipe-like object into the sea about 385 kilometers west of the island around 7:55 a.m. Thursday. The JCG and other organizations determined that the ship was likely conducting marine surveys. Although the patrol ship called on the Chinese vessel to stop its operation by radio, saying that the activity was not permitted without Japan’s consent, the vessel had not left the EEZ as of 1:15 p.m. on the day. The same vessel was seen conducting similar operations in the area within the Japanese EEZ on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday. END [Copyright The Jiji Press, Ltd.]
