Italy: Tajani mourns two airmen killed in military plane crash

(Adnkronos) – Foreign minister Antonio Tajani on Wednesday sent condolences for the deaths of two crew members of an Italian airforce plane which crashed at Circeo national park near the town of Sabaudia, south of Rome. 

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of two @ItalianAirForce military personnel who were involved in a tragic plane crash this morning in Sabaudia,” Tajani wrote on X (formerly Twitter). 

“I have expressed my condolences to (Italian airforce chief General (Antonio) Conserva and to the entire Air Force,” the post continued. 

“My heartfelt thoughts go to the families of the victims,” Tajani underlined. 

Rescue teams recovered the airmen’s dead bodies from the wreckage of the burning aircraft which crashed in a forested area. 

The aircraft, which was on a training exercise, lost radar contact before the crash. 

The causes of the plane crash are not currently known, the Italian airforce wrote in a statement. 

Italy’s premier Giorgia Meloni also expressed “deep condolences” over the deadly crash.
