Germany, Munich suspect acted over inheritance dispute

1 Ottobre 2025

(Adnkronos) – An internal family dispute, concerning an inheritance matter, is believed to be at the center of what happened today in Munich, where a man allegedly set fire to his parents’ house in the northern part of the city, shot his father and injured his mother and a twenty-one-year-old woman, before reaching the nearby Lake Lerchenau, where he reportedly took his own life. A letter – received by the police through neighbors – suggests that everything was caused by an escalating inheritance dispute.

It all started when it was still night and several explosions occurred in the Lerchenau district of Munich, and some gunshots were also fired. Firefighters were alerted around 4:40 AM: a residential building was on fire and several cars were set ablaze in the surrounding streets. According to information from “Die Welt”, rescuers found hand grenades connected to wires in the house. Disarming operations are underway. The man found with serious injuries near the lake located a short distance from the house was carrying a backpack that police suspect to be a booby trap.

The Bavarian Special Forces (SEK) then raided the suspect’s apartment in Starnberg. Previously, they had ensured that there were no booby traps in the apartment. The surrounding area was cordoned off. Police found a confession letter on the culprit, which suggested a connection to Oktoberfest, the popular festival which therefore remained closed. After news circulated in the morning about a possible link between the explosions and the Antifa movement, police spokesman Thomas Schelshorn clarified to BILD: “As always, we are investigating in all directions, but we assume a family context. We are not investigating in the direction of Antifa.”
