USA, YouTube to pay over $24 million to settle lawsuit filed by Trump

30 Settembre 2025

(Adnkronos) – YouTube has announced a settlement of over $24 million to end the lawsuit initiated by former US President Donald Trump after his account was banned in 2021, following the Capitol assault. The platform had justified the suspension with “concerns about the continued potential for violence,” before reactivating the channel in 2023. With this agreement, YouTube becomes the latest of the major tech companies to settle a dispute with Trump: Meta had already paid $25 million, while Twitter (now X) paid approximately $10 million.

According to the settlement documents, $22 million of the sum will be allocated to the construction of a new ballroom at the White House, capable of hosting 900 people and with an estimated cost of $200 million. The remaining $2.5 million will go to other plaintiffs, including the American Conservative Union. The agreement is part of a series of financial understandings that Trump has reached in the last year with major media outlets, including Paramount and Disney, while other lawsuits against publications such as The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times remain open.
