(Adnkronos) – Decisive week for Sébastien Lecornu: by next Monday, the French Prime Minister – who has come under fire in recent hours with accusations of lying about his master’s degree – plans new consultations, is preparing to detail his budget draft, face a new social mobilization, oversee the renewal of the Assembly’s bodies, form and announce his new government, and preside over a potential first council of ministers. Lecornu had promised to unveil his government “before the start of parliamentary work”. But in all likelihood, the announcement will be postponed until the weekend.
The ordinary session of Parliament opens tomorrow, but Wednesday and Thursday are dedicated to the renewal of the bodies of the Palais Bourbon (members of the bureau, committee chairs). This leaves two options on the calendar for the announcement of the new government team, explains ‘Le Figaro’. Namely, Thursday evening, if Sébastien Lecornu wants to take advantage of Emmanuel Macron’s stop on French soil, when the Head of State returns from Denmark before leaving for Germany and Luxembourg on Friday. But an announcement over the weekend is undoubtedly more likely, after the meeting scheduled for Friday with the socialists.
Regarding the budget, Lecornu must meet the expectations not only of political leaders and parties but also of public opinion. He will have to satisfy the Socialist Party without crossing the red lines set by the Republicans and centrists, with the risk of displeasing everyone. Furthermore, a new day of mobilization has been called by the inter-union for Thursday.
The leaders of the Socialist Party reacted poorly to the Prime Minister’s announcement regarding the exclusion of the Zucman tax and the suspension of pension reform. To the point that Olivier Faure has set an ultimatum: if the PS does not get satisfaction, there will be a censure motion. And so it will be, ‘Le Figaro’ continues, unless they want to turn to the Rassemblement National.
