From Spain to Iran, over 100 diplomats boycott Netanyahu’s speech at the UN

26 Settembre 2025

(Adnkronos) – More than a hundred diplomats from over 50 countries walked out en masse from the United Nations General Assembly hall in protest as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began his 45-minute speech. The count comes from the Washington Post, while Axios notes that almost all representatives from Arab and Muslim countries left the hall, along with delegates from several African and some European countries.

A protest, it is learned, led by Turkey, which saw, among the delegates who left the hall, also the Spanish ones, as confirmed by El Paìs. The same choice was made by the Iranian delegation, which, while Netanyahu was giving his speech, projected photos of what it said were children killed in Israeli air raids last June.

The delegations of Somalia and Pakistan also decided, among others, to leave the UN General Assembly as Netanyahu, to many boos but also applause from some of his supporters, took the podium. The Brazilian delegation, wearing the traditional Palestinian keffiyeh, also left its seat in the hall. Among the delegations that remained in the hall to listen to Netanyahu, besides the United States, were the delegations of Russia, China, and North Korea. New York Mayor Eric Adams remained seated with the Israeli delegation during Netanyahu’s speech, as reported by Axios.
