Chinese Premier, ‘humanity at a crossroads, be kind, we are active in resolving conflicts’

(Adnkronos) – “Humanity has reached a crossroads.” With these words, Chinese Premier Li Qiang addressed the United Nations General Assembly, warning that “the rules and international order built over the last 80 years are under serious challenge, and the once-effective international system is constantly threatened.” A situation that, he added, generates “worrying and distressing problems.”

Li urged the international community to rediscover a sense of conscience and humanity: “Anyone who cares about the state of affairs in the world would want to ask: why can’t we human beings, after emerging from tribulations, adopt a greater sense of conscience and rationality and treat each other with kindness, coexisting in peace?”. He also recalled that China is “actively involved in resolving hot-button issues in the world, such as the Ukrainian crisis and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”

The premier also emphasized the strong symbolic charge of the United Nations headquarters in New York: “Arriving this time at the UN headquarters, I saw over 190 national flags lined up in front of the building and fluttering in the breeze. I saw the sculptures that turned swords into plowshares and those of non-violence, with their time-tested message still so strong.”
