(Adnkronos) – Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been found guilty of criminal association and acquitted of corruption charges at the end of his trial for illegal financing, by Libya, of his 2007 presidential campaign. Judge Nathalie Gavarino, justified the conviction for “having let his close collaborators act in a way to obtain financial support” from the Gaddafi regime. Sarkozy’s two former collaborators, Claude Guéant and Brice Hortefeux, were found guilty, the former of passive corruption and the latter of criminal association.
